Social Etiquette

Your guide to a Fun Night

Cielo Events & Brazilian Zouk OC strive to create a safe environment where everyone feels welcomed. Because new members entering the social dance scene may mistake kindness for intimacy, we’ve put together these community guidelines.

Social Guidelines

  • A dance is just a dance: Don’t misinterpret friendliness (multiple dances, eye contact, smiles) for intimacy.
  • Respectful physical contact: Touch should only be used for leading and following. Be mindful of boundaries. Groping and unwanted touch is not tolerated.
  • Proper invitations: Verbally ask or invite with a hand gesture (without touching) for a dance. Wait for a response before heading to the dance floor.
  • Consent matters: No means no. Only ask once for a dance, a drink, or contact information. Asking multiple times creates unwanted pressure. Silence is not consent.
  • Zero tolerance for harassment: This includes inappropriate comments, verbal abuse, intimidation, bullying, stalking, unwanted photography/recording, disruption, unwanted physical contact, and unwanted sexual attention.
  • Drink responsibly: Avoid becoming overly intoxicated. If you don’t remember the night, it wasn’t fun.
  • Personal hygiene is essential: Brush your teeth (mints are available from bathroom attendants), manage body odor, bring towels or a change of clothes, and wash hands after using restrooms.
  • Health consciousness: If you’re feeling unwell, please stay home out of consideration for others.
  • Speaking up helps everyone: While uncomfortable, reporting incidents benefits the community’s safety. Let someone know when boundaries are crossed or inform staff about misconduct as soon as possible.
  • Dance floor etiquette: Don’t attempt unsafe moves (lifts, kicks, large movements). Be aware of surrounding dancers, apologetic if you bump into someone, and forgiving if it happens to you.
